Latest program update

Illinois EPA's energy rebates page states that HOMES (Section 50121) funding has been awarded to Illinois EPA and that the agencies intend to launch a pilot with two Local Administering Agencies once all necessary approvals are received from USDOE — the launch is pending USDOE approval. The HEAR (Section 50122) application "has not yet been processed by USDOE or provided to Illinois EPA." Neither program is accepting homeowner applications and there is no public application URL. Illinois states it does not intend to offer retroactive rebates, and initially plans to allocate 100% of rebate funds to households below 80% of area median income.

Can I still get a federal tax credit in Illinois?

No. 25C and 25D were both repealed by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act for property placed in service after December 31, 2025. Anything installed in Illinois in 2026 earns no federal residential energy credit. Work finished on or before that date can still be claimed.
