Oklahoma Natural Gas Rebates: Up to $2,900 Most Homeowners Never Claim

Oklahoma Natural Gas runs one of the more generous — and more overlooked — rebate programs in the state: up to $2,900 back on natural gas appliances, with the biggest checks going to homes that switch an electric water heater or electric furnace to high-efficiency gas. The two catches are the classics: funds are first-come, first-served, and your application has a deadline — 180 days from installation — after which the money is gone regardless of eligibility.

There's also a running promotion adding $125 extra on new gas clothes dryers (up to $675 combined), and free water-savings kits. Note what's not here: ONG doesn't rebate insulation or thermostats — its program is purely gas appliances, which is why it pairs so well with PSO's insulation rebates or OG&E's free weatherization on the electric side.

The tankless opportunity

The standout line is the $1,100 electric-to-gas tankless conversion. A tank water heater keeps 40–50 gallons hot around the clock whether you use it or not; a tankless unit heats water only when a tap opens. Homeowners switching from an electric tank get the biggest efficiency jump in the house and ONG's biggest water-heater check — and tankless units routinely outlast tanks. If your water heater is past its warranty age, this is usually the first upgrade worth pricing. See how tankless compares →

Who qualifies, and how the application works

You need an active ONG account (current or new customers and builders both qualify), you pay the installation cost up front, and you apply after installation — no pre-approval required. There's no participating-contractor network either; any Oklahoma-licensed installer works. What ONG does check, strictly:

  • The 180-day window — application filed within 180 days of the install date.
  • The paperwork — AHRI Certificate of Product Ratings, purchase receipt, and the contractor invoice.
  • The efficiency spec — a tankless unit at UEF .79 gets nothing; .80 gets paid. The model number decides.

Approved rebates arrive as a check in roughly 6–8 weeks. And because funds are first-come, first-served, "I'll file it later" is how eligible homeowners end up with nothing.

This is the part Upgrade Rebates does for you: we confirm the spec clears the threshold before you buy, connect you with a licensed contractor, and make sure the AHRI certificate and invoice actually get filed inside the window.

Stack it: rebate + monthly savings

A $2,500 conversion rebate is the headline, but the recurring win is the bill: high-efficiency gas heat typically costs meaningfully less per month than electric-resistance heat in Oklahoma winters. When the monthly savings meet or beat a financing payment, the upgrade carries itself — the ONG check is on top. Manufacturer promotions on qualifying models stack too, when the paperwork is done in the right order.

ONG rebate questions

Do I need ONG's approval before installing?

No — apply after installation, within 180 days. But confirm the model qualifies before you buy; the spec sheet decides the rebate.

Do I need a specific contractor?

No network requirement — any Oklahoma-licensed installer. You'll need their invoice for the application.

How is it paid?

Check by mail, about 6–8 weeks after approval.

Can renters or new-construction homes qualify?

For ONG's rebate itself, yes — current or prospective ONG customers and builders with an active account qualify, and ONG also runs separate new-home rebates. Our contractor-matching and financing service works with homeowners, though — if you rent, the upgrade decision (and the paperwork) runs through your landlord, and we're happy to talk to them.
