PSO Rebates: What's Available in 2026 and How to Actually Get Them

For HVAC and insulation work, PSO pays the rebate through the contractor, not to you — it shows up as an instant discount on the invoice, and only contractors enrolled as participating PSO service providers can apply it. Hire an installer who isn't in the program and the rebate simply never existed. That's the trap this page exists to help you avoid.

There's also a Multiple Upgrade track for homes doing three or more improvements at once — it unlocks bigger numbers like $3,000 for duct replacement, $1,800 for duct sealing, and $600 for air infiltration work, and includes roughly $300 of home performance testing at no cost. Unlike the standard rebates, this track does require pre-approval before work begins.

Who qualifies

You need a valid PSO account and a home in PSO territory. Equipment must be ENERGY STAR certified. Two exclusions catch people off guard: mobile/manufactured homes and multifamily buildings don't qualify, and PSO won't pay twice for an upgrade it has already incentivized at your address. There's no requirement that your old system be broken — in fact the smart move is upgrading a working system that's 7+ years old, when the efficiency gap (and the monthly savings) is large and you can still schedule the project calmly instead of during a 102° emergency.

If money is tight, ask about PSO's Home Weatherization Assistance instead: free attic insulation, air sealing, duct sealing and water-heater wrap for households earning $65,000/year or less in homes under 2,200 sq ft that are 10+ years old.

The contractor rule — where most rebates die

For HVAC, insulation and air-sealing rebates, PSO's process is: choose a participating service provider → schedule the job → the rebate comes off your invoice. No participating contractor, no rebate — there is no form you can file afterward to recover it. (Self-installed items like ENERGY STAR appliances are the exception: those are claimed online and paid by check in 4–6 weeks.)

This is exactly the step Upgrade Rebates handles. Check your ZIP, and we confirm your eligibility, match the equipment tier to the biggest rebate you qualify for, and connect you with a licensed contractor set up to apply PSO's discount — before anything is installed.

Stack it: rebate + bill savings

The rebate is the visible win; the recurring one is the bill. A 19.1+ SEER2 heat pump replacing a 12-year-old system doesn't just earn the $1,400 tier — it cuts the energy the system burns every month, and when those savings meet or beat a financing payment, the upgrade effectively pays for itself. Add PSO's Power Hours program after install ($50 prepaid card per enrolled smart thermostat, plus $25 for staying connected all summer) and the same equipment keeps earning.

PSO rebate questions

Do I need PSO's approval before installing?

Not for standard single-measure rebates — but you DO need a participating contractor, which has the same effect: line things up before you buy. The Multiple Upgrade track requires formal pre-approval.

How is the rebate paid?

Instant discount on the participating contractor's invoice for HVAC/insulation; mailed check (4–6 weeks) for self-installed appliance rebates.

Does my home qualify?

PSO account, PSO territory, ENERGY STAR equipment; no mobile/manufactured or multifamily homes. If you're in a mobile or manufactured home, don't stop reading — PSO's exclusion is theirs alone, and other programs we track (including ONG's gas rebates) do cover manufactured housing. Check your ZIP and we'll show you what applies.

What if I already installed the system?

If a participating contractor wasn't part of the job, the HVAC/insulation rebate can't be recovered — which is why checking first matters.
